Day 9 - Cycle and Walk from Home

Ok so day 8 was a marathon and so it was time to do less and recover a bit. No reason to be knackered while on holiday.

The plan was to take it easy in the morning and to get soup at the Keel Row at lunch time. To be honest I have no specific memory of the morning but I am sure it consisted of sitting and chatting and admiring the view. The house was always warm in fact it was so warm that as the week went on we ended up turning almost all radiators onto minimal frost settings. I do remember thinking that it was nice to spend some time in the house imagining what it would be like to live in such a place.

NOTE: skip the next paragraph if you easily get bored!

One of my personal points of interest for the whole holiday was "where did the Ferry go at night?" (some nights it disappeared after 6 o'clock and some nights it remained on the slipway). I asked one of the Ferry staff where it went at night and they told me it parked at a natural mooring on the island just up to the north from Fyn-a-fut. So that was ok. Then on some nights it was left all night moored,... had they just forgotten to take it? I knew there must be a good reason. It turned out that it could be left unattended if the weather forecast was calm and if the tides were low. So for several days on our holiday calm weather and low tides were the norm and the ferry stayed put all night.

The pub was quiet at lunch time but the soup was good and I expect they were serving beer. After this S&A1 got on their bikes and cycled to Bunessan while E&A2 took it easy. The road to Bunessan is pleasant and generally free of cars it was no real problem but we were not too fit for cycling so we noticed the hills and the headwind. I think its about 5 miles so not too far but still I was looking forward to a pint. We had forgotten that the Hotel was closed early in the week so no beer for us. Luckily there was a craft fair in the community hall where we had a pleasant chat with some locals who made us feel very welcome and we purchased a good cup of coffee. Probably better for us anyway. On the return, after we had climbed the hill out of Bunessan the ride home was easy given a strong back wind.

We had decided to eat at the Keel Row again and before it went dark (about 7 oclock) we (S&A1) decided to have a walk over to Fidddens to work up a bit of an appetite to justify dinner and beer/wine. (Any excuse!) . The weather was good and the road was very quiet so it was an enjoyable stroll of about 30 minutes (perhaps less?) On the way hawk eye A1 spotted a bird of prey on the North side of the road, it appeared to have caught its dinner perhaps a rabbit, we could not be sure.

The Pub and Meal were up to the usual high standard. After eating we chatted to the Landlord about a pet interest of mine. I am a wannabe Bagpiper. I have never done anything but talk about it as yet but one day I will play the pipes. Anyway it turns out that the Landlord and several of the regulars are members of the Mull&Iona Pipe and Drum band. The stories made good listening and have further reinforced my desire to one day play the pipes....

Back to the house for cake/biscuit and a review of the holiday so far and then Zzzz... What nice days!

The photos of the day are not as interesting as usual but here they are anyway.
