Day 10 - A Tipple in Tobermory

Up early to check the bus timetable for a trip to Tobermory. We were wondering if it would be fun to travel on the bus. However the timetables were deemed to be too restrictive and we opted to go in the car.

On our previous trips to Mull we had been on the road from Tobermory west to Dervaig and round the North section of the Island. The only road remaining to visit was the scenic route to Tobermory over the Western section of the South part of Mull. (Turn left onto the B8035). This route turned out to be one of the nicest roads I have ever driven on. I would love to come back one day, fit enough to get round on a bike! The scenery alternates between spectacular mountains and lochs and islands in equal measure.

On arrival in Tobermory we found great weather and just had time to get a soup and a pint before myself and A2 checked in for the Distillery trip. (While A1 and E did some Tobermory sight seeing in the pleasant afternoon sun. )

A1 spotted this dogs home
(It even made me smile)

We are becoming quite experts at these distillery trips now as this is our 3rd in as many years. I for one have decided that even though I don't particularly like whisky I am prepared to drink it direct from the distillery and no where else. We opted for the 8 quid trip which gave a taster of 2 different drinks at the end. These trips are never ultra exciting but they are still fun! This one was a bit quieter than others as there was no production on our visit day. Still we both felt a bit wobbly as we downed the 2 tumblers and left with silly grins.

The weather was still good enough for us all to wander up and down Tobermory high street before heading back. We had a nice time watching and listening to a happy robin in a tree just above our heads. The jolliness of the bird was all the more surprising due to one missing foot.

Tobermory is nice but not a patch on Fyn-a-ft (too many people? ... perhaps).

Classic Tobermorry

On the way back (due to alcohol) I took pictures on a posh camera and A1 retraced our drive over the scenic route south and stopped when we arrived at Burnessan as the Hotel was open.

I took this on A1 camera nice?

A took this too - great road

The meal and drink were great as usual. I don't usually have much of a memory for food but I do remember that I ordered the same mince, potato and carrot/suede dish that E ordered. Now E is much smaller than me. Anyway both plates were massive and the largest was given to E. Even though I protested at the time E was determined to keep hold of her meal. Amazingly (to me anyway) we both polished off the entire plates... Draw your own conclusions.

After a quick rest on returning home me and A1 took a stroll up to the Keel Row for a game of darts. I was well beaten. I am not sure about this but I suspect the locals were thinking A1 may be useful in the darts team.

Another action packed day... Zzzzz...
